Likely Red Press

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Likely Red is open mostly year-round for submissions in prose and poetry. We try to push the right buttons to nominate work for various literary awards, including The Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net Anthology. We pay, a little.

We only accept submissions in English and all submissions must be previously unpublished, including from blogs and social media accounts.

Basics: We accept simultaneous submissions, but please withdraw your submission (or note within Submittable if only withdrawing a single poem from a selection) as soon as possible if a piece you’ve submitted to us gets accepted elsewhere. We couldn’t care less about cover letters. We only care about your contact info: specifically your name and email address.

Response Time: Give us two weeks to make a decision. We aim for sooner, but sometimes we get a bit behind due to local events and happenings. If you haven’t heard from us within 14 days, please feel free to send us an email or aggravate us on Twitter. We encourage you to report our response times on Duotrope or The Grinder

Payments: For pieces (or set of pieces) accepted for our online journal, we pay contributors $10 (usd). Payment is via PayPal.

Rights: If accepted, we require First North American Rights for us to publish your story online as well as archival rights for us to keep a copy of your story in our online archives. We also reserve the right to include your work in a future anthology. All other rights revert back to the author upon publication. Please kindly indicate Likely Red as the first publisher if the work is published again.

Likely-Fiction/Poetry Chapbook Contest: Our Annual fiction/poetry chapbook contest opens annualy for submissions April 30th and remains open until June 30th. In even years, the genre is fiction and in odd years, the genre is poetry. There is a submission fee. One winner will be selected. The winner receives a cash prize, a limited publication run of their chapbook, and 10 contributor copies. Manuscripts including previously published prose and poetry that you have the rights to are acceptable, however the manuscript as a whole must be previously unpublished. All rights revert back to the author upon publication. Please kindly credit Likely Red as the first publisher in the future.

All content is subject to minor edits for grammar, typos, and formatting purposes.

For promotional purposes, we may quote small sections of your work in various locations, including on our social media accounts.

We reserve the right to remove content from our website and press if any contributors demonstrate a public profile that goes against Likely Red Press's commitment to equality, diversity, social justice, and safe spaces for writers of all backgrounds.
